Search Tips: Finding Evidence Based Articles

To search for evidence-based articles on CINAHL:

  1. Click on the link below to go to CINAHL.
  2. Below the search boxes, there is a list of "search options." Scroll down the list of limiters. (Look at the other choices on the way. You may find others that will come in handy in the future.) 
  3. In the right column, find one that says "Evidence-based practice."  Check this box.
  4. Go back up to the search boxes at the top, enter your search terms and click the search button. The results the search returns will be evidence-based.

To search for evidence-based articles in the Nursing and Allied Health database:

  1. Click on the link below to go to the Nursing and Allied Health Database.
  2. Click on the "advanced search" link.
  3. Put your search terms in the search box.
  4. Scroll down the page to see the limiters. Under "document type", select "evidence based healthcare"

You can type your search in the search box below to search CINAHL Plus with Full Text, Health Source Nursing/Academic Edition and MEDLINE with Full Text together.

Check both the "full-text" and "peer-reviewed" boxes below the search box to ensure that any articles found are considered scholarly, meaning they have a scientific or research basis and are written by and for professionals in the field.
