Kanopy Streaming Videos

How Kanopy Works

Kanopy provides the library with licenses which permit all members of the Franklin University community to access the video. Kanopy videos can be shown in a class or linked for students to watch individually.

The library provides access to Kanopy videos when they support the curriculum and research needs of the University community.You can see the library's Standards for Kanopy Streaming Video for information about when the library will provide access to Kanopy streaming videos.

If you have questions about Kanopy, or want to make sure that students in a course will be able to watch a required video, email the library at library@franklin.edu.

Kanopy Videos Currently Available

See the Library videos by course, to see what videos the library has already licensed from Kanopy. This page also lists some videos courses use which are accessed from different video platforms than Kanopy.

You can watch these videos immediately, without going through the process to request access to a Kanopy video. If you need to watch a Kanopy video which is not already licensed, follow the instructions on the "requesting access" box on this page.

Requesting Access to Kanopy Videos

If you are in a course which requires use of a Kanopy video, or you need access to a video and otherwise satisfy the library's standards for providing access to a Kanopy video, and the library has not already licensed the video, you can ask the library to let you watch the video. Here's how:

  1. find the video in Kanopy (you can enter a title or subject in the search box, or click on the browse menu item to select available subjects);
  2. request access - the method depends on how you found the video:
    1. if you are on the search results page, hover over the video's image and click the orange "request access" button;
    2. if you are on the video's page from a direct link in a course, click on the orange "watch now" button, then click on the orange "log in to franklin" button and log in with your franklin credentials;
  3. you will be taken to a "request for access" page. fill in your information, including your course number. Under "what will this title be used for" indicate the assignment the video is for. then click on the request access page;
  4. the library will review the request and make a decision within 3 business days. If the video meets the standards for providing access, the library will license the video.
  5. Kanopy will send you an email to notify you that you can access the video through your Franklin account.
